Today the Houston Civic Arts Association hosted the "Greater Houston Open Show". I volunteered on Friday to help with the intake process. There were over 100 pieces entered. I was honestly feeling a little overwhelmed by the number of "Excellent" paintings and drawings that were entered. I had entered three pieces. The one shown here was entered under the Title: Bayou Meets the Road. It sounded better than: Under the Bridge. The painting depicts the area where Dairy Ashford Road passes over Buffalo Bayou along Terry Hershey Park. LaNell Arndt was the judge and offered a nice combination of praise and suggestion for improvement. This painting was awarded "Second Place". The prize was awarded in the "Non-Professional" Division under the Category "Oil/Acrylic on Canvas" This particular grouping had one of the largest number of entries.
