I worked on a small study of an sprawling oak tree at the end of a trail in Brazos Bend State Park. This same painting was posted earlier but there was something in the picture that was unsettling to me. I realized that the bluish/purple shadows across the road looked like a giant bird had put his three pronged foot on the road. I realized that the shadow of the trees was in my initial photograph but it just kept making my eye lead to it. I repainted the road and signed this painting. It is a good lesson for me that just because something is there I do not have to paint it in.
