Memorial Day Weekend

I did not want Memorial Day to pass without a thought of its true meaning. Below is Wikipedia's opening remark on Memorial Day: Quote
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates men and women who died while in military service to the United States.[1] First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War,[2] it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars. End Quote

I did get to paint this past Thursday and put together a picture of the coast of Portugal. This was done from a photo on my first trip to Europe where I actually went to see some of the areas my father served in during World War II. I think this might work on a larger scale. The painting still needs a few touch ups.
